Border regions are seen as laboratories of European integration on a micro scale. Problems and opportunities that exist at the European level are often reflected in local constellations of border regions. They require administrative and political cooperation, as well as personal contacts across borders. Cooperation seems to be much easier at the local level when only two or three states are involved.
The aim of the volume is to examine the German-Polish border and border regions in more detail. In order to be able to understand the multiple constellations and characteristics of the cross-border contacts, the border is analyzed from different perspectives. The contributions of Polish border area researchers should be presented to the general public and draw international attention to this special border region.
